On Thursday, Lt. Governor Pamela Evette presented a proclamation recognizing June as Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month.
The presentation occurred at 11:30 a.m. at the Lt. Governor’s Office in the SC State House.
The presentation falls on the summer solstice, which the Alzheimer’s Association and supporters celebrate as The Longest Day, a day of fundraising and awareness.
The gubernatorial proclamation urges people to discuss brain health and cognitive changes with loved ones and healthcare providers to access current treatments, and it honors caregivers, researchers and other stakeholders working to support those impacted by dementia.
The presentation will highlight work being done in South Carolina to address Alzheimer’s numbers, including advocacy efforts in support of an Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC) in South Carolina, which earned the national distinction of the 2024 State Policy Achievement Award from the Alzheimer’s Impact Movement (AIM).
Speakers at Thursday’s event include Lt. Governor Evette, Director of the Department on Aging, Connie Munn, and incoming Executive Director of the Alzheimer’s Association, SC Chapter, Ashton Houghton.
